Bijou Cox decided she wanted to attend Delaware Tech when she was a student at POLYTECH High School and learned that she could earn an associate degree debt free. The College’s renowned design program was a happy coincidence, since Cox knew she had a passion for the arts.
She graduated from Delaware Tech in 2017 with a degree in multimedia design and immediately started working as a graphic designer. She credits the College for its hands-on approach, her teachers’ guidance, and the opportunities presented to help make her successful career possible.
Cox serves as assistant vice president of The DMI Group, with offices in Wilmington, Delaware, Manhattan, New York and Orlando, Florida. She loves taking the newer designers under her wing to “give them a chance to shine, show their talents, and figure out who they want to be as designers.”
She started with The DMI Group in 2019 when she was approached to join as their only graphic designer. Today, the team has expanded and a majority of the designers are Delaware Tech alumni.
“I always go for Delaware Tech graduates when I’m looking to fill a position in my design team,” Cox said. “I know they have the hands-on experience needed and they know what business is going to be like outside of the classroom.”
Cox, who states right now in her career would have been a dream job for when she was much older, plans to help The DMI Group grow “as big as it possibly can be” and continue giving opportunities to up-and-coming designers.
